How does a review earn anything?
Not by existing. Paying per review just buys spam. Reviews that other readers mark helpful generate reputation events, reputation decides how much of a reward epoch you are entitled to, and the epoch settles as a claimable balance. Every step is a row in a database you can audit, not a number in your browser.
What stops people farming it?
The server is the only authority. One review per title per account and one helpful vote per person per review are enforced by database constraints rather than by the interface. You cannot vote on your own work, every write is validated and rate limited, and reputation events are idempotent so a replay cannot inflate a score.
Do I need a wallet?
Yes — your wallet is your identity. You prove you own it by signing a short message, which is free, sends no transaction and grants no spending permission. Connecting a wallet is not enough on its own: the server verifies the signature against a single-use nonce before it will open a session.
Why are helpful votes the signal?
Because a review nobody finds useful has not contributed anything, however long it is. Marking someone helpful is the cheapest honest signal a reader can give, so it is what reputation is built from — and it is the one thing an author cannot do for themselves.
When can I claim, and in what?
Rewards accrue as points and are calculated off-chain in epochs, so a helpful vote never costs a transaction. Settlement runs on Base Sepolia — a testnet — and the database records the claim so the same balance cannot be claimed twice. Real value comes only after the security phase, not before.
Why films and books in one place?
Because the people worth reading rarely stay in one lane. Someone who can tell you what a novel does with time usually has something to say about how a film handles it. One catalogue makes those connections the point rather than an accident.
